How to iron a silk scarf

Taking care of silk is taking care of what you carry with you.

Twill silk is a firm fabric with an elegant drape and is very resistant to ironing, ideal for scarves that are used daily. Although it is more durable than other types of silk, it deserves certain care to maintain its shine and softness.

If you’re wondering how to iron a Twill silk scarf correctly, here are the essential steps.

1. Check that the scarf is clean

Before ironing, make sure your scarf is clean. Heat can set invisible stains and make them permanent.

2. Not all silks are created equal

It is important to remember that not all silks behave the same when ironing. Some, very thin or satin, require low temperatures and a lot of care.
The Bonito Mundo scarves, being made of Twill silk, are more resistant and allow for somewhat hotter irons without losing their shine or softness, offering an impeccable finish and a feeling of quality that lasts over time.

3. Adjust the iron as needed

Although Twill silk withstands high temperatures well, it is advisable to:

  • Start with a medium-high temperature

  • Use steam if you want to soften more resistant wrinkles

It is always best to test first in a discreet corner of the scarf.

4. Iron on the reverse side

To protect the print and maintain the silky touch, iron the scarf on the reverse side.
If you want maximum protection, place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the silk.

5. Slide the iron carefully

Even being resistant, Twill silk benefits from smooth and continuous movements. Avoid leaving the iron too long in the same spot to avoid generating shine.

6. Optional steam

You can use direct steam on the scarf if you need to.
Another alternative is to hang it in a humid bathroom for a few minutes: the steam will relax the fabric naturally.

7. How to store your Twill silk scarf

  • Folded gently or rolled up

  • In a clean, dry drawer

  • Avoiding elastics or clips that can mark the fabric

This will maintain its shape, shine, and softness for a long time.

Twill Silk: durability and elegance

Twill silk scarves are both resistant and delicate. Ironing them in the correct way enhances their beauty and will allow you to enjoy them for many years, preserving that drape and softness that makes them special.
